Kitchens to Envy

August 9, 2017

Well, I clearly haven’t been posting every week – it’s amazing how difficult it is to find time to post! Between working, kids and general house stuff, I basically only find time after 10pm to get on the computer, and at that point, you can bet I have fallen asleep on the couch. SO, since I am on vacation this week, I figured I could find SOME time in between biking, rafting, swimming and drinking beer, to talk about some of my favorite kitchens. If you follow me on Instagram, you would know that I love a kitchen with some color. As beautiful and clean a white kitchen can be, I find them a bit boring. The kitchen is where you spend lots of time in, where people gather, and where you can invest lots of money in to make your “dream kitchen”. In my opinion, (and this is only my opinion, so don’t be offended) white kitchens are too sterile, and eventually feel tired. There are so many ways to add color to a kitchen, even if you have already invested in an all white kitchen. Here are some kitchens that I think utilize color in the best way! Here is a perfect example of a white kitchen that adds just a bit of color to break up the sterile white. I LOVE this idea, and of course the color used! Anna Bode did a great job making this white kitchen have some warmth to it. Source : Anna…

Entryway Envy

July 10, 2017

Of all the places in our house to decorate, I have struggled with our entryway.  It is a bit small, dark, and doesn’t get enough light for most plants to survive (thank god for great faux plants!). I feel like I am ALWAYS looking at ways to improve our entryway, and eyeballing entryways that I envy for their light, feel and space. Since an entryway is the first impression someone has when they walk into your home, you want it to be a good starting point for the vibe of the rest of the house; however, it can also be a place to do something fun and bold, and take a little risk since it tends to be a smaller space and generally more contained. This can be done by using fun patterns, wallpaper, tile, or a bold color on the walls or ceiling. It can really be that simple? Paint a wall? Sure! In my entryway, I felt I couldn’t put too much pattern or color on the walls because it opens up into our formal living room which is a big white space, and they are not very separated. The edges of the walls all bleed together. One thing I felt the space did need was some kind of a mirror to make it seem bigger, and I also wanted something a bit decorative to distract from the ugly boring wall, oddly placed light switch, and closet door. I found a great mirror at Overstock, and although I…

A Little Art Goes A Long Way

June 26, 2017

As I mentioned in my previous post, one way to bring color (and green) into your home, is by finding great art to incorporate into your space. It always amazes me how much a room will change once there is some artwork up on the wall. Now, I have to admit, I am not a HUGE art connoisseur. I love art, but was no art major, and I don’t spend thousands of dollars on art – plus, things in my house still break or get sticky fingers on them (thanks kids) so I try not to buy things that I will regret if something happens to them. With that said, I think that there are a TON of resources for art and even cool one of a kind art, that aren’t that expensive. For me, I always chose my art based on how I react to it. It’s kind of like falling in love at first sight. If it makes me immediately happy and I am drawn to it, then I will try to figure out if could work in my house. But sometimes it just doesn’t. Sometimes it’s not the right fit. It can take some time to find that “right fit” for your space, your aesthetic, and your artistic desire. And if you are like me, your aesthetic changes often, so investing in really expensive pieces might not be the way to go. Here are some great resources I’ve found. (Click on each photo if you want to…

Green Is My Thing

June 15, 2017

I have always loved interior design and creating colorful yet inviting spaces. For some, having a bright white house is what is most attractive, and don’t get my wrong – a LOT of my house is white – but I love to throw in a bit of color to make it interesting, and during the past few years as we’ve renovated our home, I realized that the color I use most in my life and home is green. All kinds of greens! This years Pantone 2017 color of the year is Greenery, which is a pretty bold green to use around the house. I am not sure I would paint a whole room this color, but have a few pillows? or incorporate it in some artwork or an accent piece? – sure! and I do! However, I have a whole lot of other greens, yellows and blues to work back with this bold color. Here are a few ways to incorporate green into your home. Artwork There is an abundance of artwork out there to pull in greens to your decor. Whether you are mid century, modern, traditional, contemporary, bohemian – you name it – there is LOTS of artwork out there. Here are some examples and resources I have found. Art work by Lisa Lapointe and Justina Blakeney All of the below art is from MINTED,which I think is a great, affordable resources and you can even have it come framed, but there are lots of other resources like…

Designing with Tile

June 6, 2017

I am a BIG fan of tile – there I said it. Now, lets discuss my specific love of tile, and in the process, give you some resources to find tile that you may also love, like this Moroccan Hex Dot tile above from Popham Design. My personal love of tile is specific to my pattern obsession, and leans towards geometric patterns and Moroccan designs, which is also a big design trend right now, so I couldn’t be more in heaven about all the options out there; however, other reasons to love tile are because it’s durable, waterproof, easy to clean, doesn’t collect as many allergens, and is great for warmer climates to stay cool. There are a lot of great pattern options out there and they all range in price. What I love most about tile is that it can really “make” a room. Be it flooring, a back splash, an entryway, or even just around the mantel, it is a great way to bring a pattern to a room that can be fun, bold, inviting, sophisticated and create an interest to a room that may otherwise be fairly simple. Pinterest and Instagram are great resources to find images of tile being used in beautiful spaces, but here are a few of my favorites and where you can find them, that range from about $2/sq. ft to $18/sq. Welcome To my Blog!

May 24, 2017

Hello Everyone! (or my few friends and mom who know I am doing this blog). I am trying out this “blog thing” to give me a creative platform where I can share with all of you my interior design inspiration, images, projects and general design aesthetic to hopefully inspire others! I’ve been a big interiors and architecture fan for as long as I can remember, and decided that instead of having a real midlife crisis at 40 (so close, I know), I would just do it a little early and start focusing on a career that I really love – interiors! My mission with this blog is to curate fun ideas for interiors, give others inspiration to help decorate, and offer resources to create your own beautiful spaces. I hope you will all follow me on this fun adventure, and that here or there I can inspire you as well to create!   xx Ash
